Engineering Disciplines

Candidates can apply for one of the following four categories:

• Civil Engineering
• Mechanical Engineering
• Electrical Engineering
• Electronics & Telecommunication Engineering

The examination covers various Group A and Group B engineering services/posts under these categories.

Eligibility

Candidates must have an eligible Engineering degree from a recognized university/institution. The notification also specifies certain alternative qualifications for particular services, including prescribed qualifications through recognized professional institutions and certain M.Sc. qualifications for specified posts.

Age Limit: Candidates must be 21 to 30 years as on 1 January 2027. The notification provides additional age relaxation for eligible categories such as SC, ST, OBC, Ex-Servicemen, PwBD and certain Government employees.

The ₹200 fee can be paid through Net Banking, Credit/Debit Card or UPI. OBC and EWS candidates are not exempted from the examination fee.

Selection Process

The UPSC ESE 2027 selection process consists of three stages:

1. Preliminary Examination (Stage-I) – Objective
2. Main Examination (Stage-II) – Conventional/Descriptive
3. Personality Test/Interview (Stage-III)

The Preliminary Examination carries 500 marks, while the Main Examination carries 600 marks and the Personality Test carries 200 marks.
